This study outlined the major changes that the Korean drama industry had witnessed since 2000. We divided the past 21 years (2000–2020) into three periods and described the main characteristics of each period. Then, we discussed the overall trajectory of the number of mini series that have been scheduled in TV channels from 2000 to 2020 to identify major changes that TV drama industry underwent, such as the establishment of general programming channels, the growth of tvN and JTBC and Netlix’s participation in Korean drama production. Lastly, we identified the source of drama development and discussed the industrial context where producers are increasingly dependent on the external story sources.
