메타버스 산업이 발전하려면 메타버스의 지향점처럼 디지털 공간에서 편리하게 사회 · 경제 · 문화 활동을 하며 자유롭게 가치를 창출하고 공유 · 거래할 수 있는 환경이 마련되어야 한다. 인공지능(AI) 기술은 메타버스 서비스에 대한 다양한 아이디어들을 실현하고 개선하는데 도움이 될 것이다. 본고에서는 확장현실(XR) 관련 기술 현황, 메타버스 플랫폼 관련 이슈 등을 통해 메타버스 산업 동향을 살펴보고 메타버스 서비스가 갖는 특징에 대해서도 알아본다. 그리고, 메타버스에서의 AI 기술의 필요성에 대해 고민해보고 메타버스 서비스 확대를 위한 AI 기술 활용과 서비스 이슈들에 대해서도 고찰해본다.
