This study aims to examine the interaction patterns between anchors and guest politicians in institutional settings. In particular, strategies used against equivocation and resistance of political figures in newsroom talks are explored. Regarding the intrinsically evasive nature of politicians in newsroom dialogues, four different discourses of CNN interviews reveal the methods in which the questioner deals with their inclination to sidestep critical questions. Case studies of four discourses capture the approaches that the interrogator employs to encounter evasive attitudes of the politicians to ultimately carry out his role within the institution. Each tactic is observed based on the transcribed data following the notational conventions developed by Gail Jefferson. The anchor demonstrates common features across all data sets. The subsequent four types are addressed as major skills: (1) repeating and reformulating, (2) challenging the answer, (3) interrupting the answer, and (4) disclosing the resistance. Reaction designs revealing how institutional interaction is achieved in political newsroom discussions can provide guidance to both professional journalists and broadcast journalism. Anchors and the news media can serve better purposes of transmitting information to the public by refining and improving conversational techniques.
