As a function word, preposition is known as one of the most difficult grammar elements for Korean learners of English. Previous studies have contributed to clarifying the characteristics of errors made by Korean learners in terms of prepositions, but it is rarely observed whether the higher the school level, i.e., as the exposure period in English increases, the more contextually the prepositions are used, or whether there is a difference in the use of prepositions by gender. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there are any differences in errors in the use of prepositions according to school levels or gender. As a result, there was no difference by gender, but there was a significant difference by school levels especially in the omission error (p=.009). In particular, it was reported that the college students group committed more omission errors than the high school students group (p=.019), which shows that the frequency of the errors of college students is higher than that of high school students, so that the proportion of prepositions" appropriate use and English exposure period are not directly proportional. Finally, the cause of errors and educational implications are also presented.
