The mediating effects of existential meaning on the relationship between posttraumatic growth and adjustment were examined based on a survey administered to 439 adults between the ages of 40 and 60 years old. The survey collected data about posttraumatic experience and growth, personal and spiritual meaning, mid-life resilience, subjective happiness, and mid-life crisis. The one-way ANOVA analysis demonstrated that posttraumatic experience and growth influenced the development of existential meaning and adjustment. The structural equation modeling proved that posttraumatic growth mediated the direct path to mid-life resilience and subjective happiness, but not to mid-life crisis. In addition, both personal and spiritual meanings mediate the link between posttraumatic growth and mid-life resilience and subjective happiness; however, personal meaning alone was mediated by the link between posttraumatic growth and mid-life crisis. Based on results, the implications and the limitations of this study were discussed.
