Metaverse is a technology that allows users to experience a sense of presence and immersion in a space that is difficult to visit. Vicarious pleasure can bring up the user’s interest. Korea is one of the few divided countries in the world, and there is a special area called the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Due to the high military tension in this area, public activities are strictly prohibited. The Ministry of Unification established the DMZ metaverse as a part of various policies for peace in the DMZ. For sustainable public service, it should be basically developed as a web based metaverse using the e-Government Framework. In this study, the DMZ Goseong metaverse using a web based metaverse platform is introduced. The DMZ metaverse functions and future research directions are discussed based on the metaverse feature 5C (Canon, Creator, Currency, Continuity, Connectivity).
