Report Errors
Providing flexible and efficient programming and system software support for supercomputers is a challenging task. It requires a language front-end for high-level API’s, a compiler backend for code generation, optimization passes tailored to the target supercomputer and runtime libraries for resource management. This paper presents an OpenCL compiler and runtime we co-designed and developed for Supreme-K supercomputers (AXPU). We minimized development effort by building only required components on top of the existing clang/LLVM compiler and open-source OpenCL runtime, focusing on performance-optimizing features. For the OpenCL-AXPU compiler, we implemented front-end support for AXPU-specific LLVM intrinsics and OpenCL built-ins, code generation support for private and local memory accesses, and metadata generation. For the SoCL runtime, we extended PoCL to add platform and host API implementations for AXPU, generated execution environments for OpenCL kernels and provided built-in functions for AXPU. We evaluated the compiler and runtime with OpenCL CTS (Conformance Test Suite) on an AXPU functional simulator, and they passed all “basic” test cases.
