The ratio of single-person-household is 30.2% among whole households, and it is getting higher as people marry late, and unmarried rate and divorce rate are increasing, along with aging society. This study is intended to analyze single-person-household’s residential situation and residential demand of college students, youths, the middle-aged and seniors through three sessions of analysis. At the first analysis, space situation was comprehended, and interviews were done through visits of single-person-households. At the second analysis, FGI(Focus Group Interview) was done on behavior characteristics and demands of space use by age. At the third analysis, an online survey was done about desired space structure.
The results of the above analyses are as follows. First, the results of visiting research show that the common feature of all age groups is lack of storage due to increase of home appliances, and differences are clothing storage for college students and youths, home appliances for the middle-aged and health-related items for seniors. Second, the results of FGI show that college students and youths prefer floor plan with their own relaxation space and working from home space, the middle-aged prefer practical floor plan with good storage and cooking space, and seniors prefer large living room and familiar floor plan with integrated space. Third, the results of online survey show that the common feature of important space is bedroom, or sleeping space. Regarding difference by age, all age groups prefer divided space except college students, who like studio type. All age groups want combined living room and kitchen with separated bedroom.
