Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out how AI speakers influenced the improvement of vocabulary extraction ability and information memory in 3 adolescents with mild intellectual disability and 2 adults. Methods: Participants are selected from the those residents of Ulsan metropolitan city who are in their teen age to 20’s and who are diagnosed with mild intellectual disabilities from hospitals or disability related centers. The projects included AI speaker based word chain games and schedule registration and checkup training that aim to assess their abilities to memorize information and use proper vocabulary. The final results are used to characterize each participant. Results: The following is the summary of research results. First, in the AI speaker based word chain game project, teenagers and adults with mild intellectual disabilities seem to be able to improve their abilities to use proper vocabulary. Second, in the AI speaker based schedule registration and checkup project, teenagers and adults with mild intellectual disabilities seem to be able to improve their abilities to memorize information. Conclusions: From this research result, we can conclude that the AI speaker based word chain game project and schedule registration and checkup project can provide some positive impacts on the group of adults and teenagers abilities to use proper vocabulary and memorize information. In addition, the AI speaker based schedule registration and checkup project can be helpful in improving the participant’s independence as well. Thus, we can conclude that the AI speaker is effective as a schedule management tool and it can have a positive impact as a new schedule management medium. However, in the AI speaker based word chain game project, even if there are some positive effects but because of the AI speaker’s failure to recognize simple words, tendencies to suggest difficult words instead of simple ones, and limited time available, it shows much worse results than in the word chain game project performed with verbal commands, instead. Therefore, from these results, it is obvious that further efforts should be made to conceive a more specific and practical program for teenagers and adults with mild intellectual disabilities.
