Overseas Children"s Museums have strong characteristic of public institution for children’s learning and welfare in the local communities such as Brooklyn and Boston. However, when they were introduced to Korea, they attracted people’s attention and interest as new kind child education as they emphasized education as a play by trying hands-on exhibitions. As museums of history, science, and art, came to have interest in education and the exhibitions for children, many museums established children’s museum in them. It was a way to overcome the display environment of the existing museum which was not friendly to children.
It has been twenty years since the children"s museum landed in Korea and they developed much in last ten years. The children"s museums have exchanged their ideas on the planning and development of exhibitions and educational programs and have developed much. However, children’s museums installed in the museums have the advantage of being able to bring synergy to the overall performance of the museum by sharing the achievements of their collections and research, and contributing to the planning and interpretation of exhibitions with curators of the affiliated museum unlike independent children’s museums. In this article, I would like to look into the method to improve exhibitions for children and to review the new partnership between curator and educator connecting the concept of edu-curation which has emerged recently. We would like to continuously ask the questions on children’s exhibition through these review such as the relationship between curriculum and education, balance of education and design, evaluation criteria of the children"s museum achievements, and the direction of the children"s museums in the future with researchers.
