This study utilized the survey on the condition of the elderly conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs under the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2017, and the participants of this study were 10,299 elderly people aged 65 years or older. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of exercise participation on depression, cognitive function, and life satisfaction in the elderly. The depression scale, cognitive function scale, and life satisfaction scale used in this study were the items used in the survey on the condition of the elderly conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs under the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2017. The collected data was analyzed through SPSS 22. 0. Based on the method and results of this study, the discussion was as follows. First, the exercise participation group showed a lower level of depression than the non-exercise group. Second, the exercise participation group showed higher cognitive function than the non-exercise group. Third, it was found that the exercise participation group had a higher level of overall life satisfaction than the non-exercise group. Specifically, the exercise participation group showed higher satisfaction with spouse relationship, child relationship satisfaction, social/leisure/cultural activity satisfaction, and friend and community relationship satisfaction than the non-exercise group. On the other hand, the non-exercise group was higher in health status satisfaction and economic status satisfaction than the exercise participation group. Various discussions related to research methods and results and suggestions for follow-up studies were presented.
