On February 8, 1948, the North Korean government established the 1st Central Academy of the North Korean Army(Korean People’s Army) and the 2nd Central Political School to intensively foster military officers and political officers. Students embraced modern military doctrines for 7 to 10 months while being educated with Soviet military political textbooks and military manuals translated into Korean under the guidance of Soviet military advisers.
The 1st Central Military Academy trained infantry and artillery officers through military studies until June 1948, and conducted tactical training of battalions and regiments from 1949 to 1950. In addition, the 2nd Central Political School educated students on the history of the World Communist Revolution and the Korean Independence Movement, as well as the weapons and equipment of the Soviet Army.
During the Korean War in 1950, about 32.8% of officers in the North Korean Army had graduated from two academies. The junior military officers were mainly graduates of the 1st Central Military Academy, and the junior political officers were mainly graduates of the 2nd Central Political School. As a result, the two academies provided a human base for the modern offensive battles by comprehensively operating each type of soldier.
