Purpose : This study was conducted to examine changes in auditory and outer hair cell activity before and after alcohol intake. Methods : After carefully selecting subjects who do not have any problems with the middle ear or hearing, K-MMSE, PTA, TEOAE, and DPOAE are measured and compared before and after alcohol intake. A causal analysis was performed using the t-test with blood alcohol concentration as a covariate. Results : First, the average score of K-MMSE before alcohol intake was 29.3, and the average score after ingestion was 28.3, and the average blood alcohol level was 0.13 from 0.05 to 0.21. Second, after alcohol intake, the PTA threshold increased at most frequencies, and the OAE response of TEOAE and DPOAE also tended to decrease after alcohol intake. Third, there was no significant correlation by frequency of PTA, TEOAE, and DPOAE before and after alcohol intake. Fourth, blood alcohol level did not have a significant effect on hearing and OHCs activity before and after alcohol intake. Conclusions : It was confirmed that human hearing and OHCs activity are negatively affected after alcohol intake, independent of cognition and blood alcohol level.
