Purpose ROK Navy intends to secure the Korean-type aircraft carrier in order to effectively prepare for various future security threats. This study, the efficiency was evaluated through the relative comparison between the scale of aircraft carriers and operational capabilities(aircraft on board, cruising range), and optimization of operational capabilities of the Korean-type aircraft carrier that could be acquired was presented.
Methods A DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) model was applied to aircraft carriers(16 aircraft carriers in 10 countries) currently in operation and scheduled to be possessed in the world. As input variables, the full-load displacement, length, and width of aircraft carriers were selected. As output variables, the aircraft payload, cruising range were selected.
Results The relative efficiency score of the Korean-type aircraft carrier currently being evaluated is 1.221, and it was evaluated as a small amount aircraft on board and short cruising range compared to the scale. Based on scale of the Korean-type aircraft carrier, the optimization of operational capabilities calculated by aggregating benchmark groups, are 19 aircraft on board and 11,597NM in cruising range.
Conclusion Through this method, it will be possible to optimize of operational capabilities of the Korean-type aircraft based on efficiency.
