From the micromorphological view, this paper describes the microscopic characteristics of 4 detritic superficial formations in the profile of Iljuk, Anseong City, on the Korean Peninsula. The bottom formation is granitic weathered mantles(A), and gravelly mass-movement deposits(B) is covered on it. Sandy run-off deposits(C) is distributed in the form of lens on the mass-movement formation, and the top layer is sand-silty matrix deposits(D). The paleoenvironmental significance of individual micromorphological features such as horizontal arrangement of planar voids and cracks, disorthic nudules of Mn (manganese concentrations), clay coatings and cryogenic structures (banded fabric, horizontal cracks) implies postdepositional reworking during and after the Last Glacial Period, Pleistocene. Especially, the cryogenic structure appears in the bottom granitic weathered mantles and the top sand-silty matrix deposits. but weak in the middle formations.
