(Background & Purpose) With the rapid change, entering into post-industrial society, modern people are suffering from disorders caused by severe mental and physical stress. In particular, compulsory restrictions on activities and communication after the outbreak of COVID-19 brought personal isolation and emotional conflict. As a result, interest in and use of a healing space has increased, and more people are seeking such space for comfort as well as consolation and healing. This study quantitatively analyzes a questionnaire survey on which healing spatial design element as MSSE affects comfort and the intention to continuous use when such space is used. (Method) First, this study extracts characteristics through a theoretical review of previous studies on healing spatial design elements as MSSE for comfort. Second, the survey and statistical analysis are conducted by establishing a research model and a hypothesis for the general public who have visited the healing space. Third, through statistical factor analysis, an element affecting comfort among the healing spatial design elements is analyzed, and its effect of “degree” on the intention to continuous use of the healing space is analyzed. (Results) The design elements of the healing space, the healing spatial design elements, were classified into physical, social, psychological, functional, and cognitive environmental elements. Multiple regression analysis revealed that social and cognitive environmental elements did not significantly affect comfort, and physical, psychological, and functional environmental elements had a significant influence on comfort. In the healing space, comfort affects the intention to continuous use only through satisfaction, and the intention to continuous use does not have a positive effect without satisfaction. (Conclusions) The results of the survey and statistical analysis indicated the general public feel comfortable when the physical, psychological, and functional environmental elements among the healing spatial design elements are satisfied for healing. Average verification of each variable revealed that community activities or active support from facility personnel, corresponding to social environmental elements, had the lowest effect on healing. Therefore, meaningful results and evidence were derived from the fact that the subject was extended to the general public from the reality where most of the research on the healing space was in relation to older people. In addition, it is expected that it will be helpful in suggesting the direction of healing spatial design in the future.
