(Background and Purpose) Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a hot topic in digital art, NFT collection is receiving a great deal of attention lately. The NFT collection market is expected to grow significantly, with Nike acquiring RTFKT, a fashion NFT startup, at the end of last year. However, research on NFTs is still limited, focusing mainly on technical aspects such as copyright regulations. In reality, while various NFT collections are being introduced abroad, the development of NFT collections has not been done in a variety of ways in Korea. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present the direction of NFT collection in the future and the direction of development of NFT collection contents by examining the types of NFT collection on the OpenSea platform and analyzing the characteristics. (Method) In the study, the concept and general characteristics of NFT collection were first considered through literature review, and then types were classified based on the theory of biological evolution. After that, representative cases of NFT collection were found and analyzed on the OpenSea platform. The RTFKT-MNLTH collection was selected as a representative case of an NFT collection on OpenSea, and images were analyzed using the theory of biological evolution to identify general characteristics and evolutionary characteristics of NFT collection. As a result, the characteristics and main types of NFT collection were confirmed. For detailed analysis of representative cases, five aspects were used as a measure: reliability, community, rarity, randomness, and collaboration. (Results) As a general characteristic of NFT collection, a developer must have high reliability through active communication with collectors by using a community. During production, a limited quantity is produced to ensure rarity. An image produced in this way evolves randomly when rebuilding, and has randomness. In addition, it has the characteristics of improving the value through collaboration with famous artists in various fields. As an evolutionary characteristic of NFT collection, it requires a process of pre-expression, expression, and recurrence. The image appears through a pre-expression type, and it evolves and is expressed in a new image through the process of rebuilding. After that, it evolves into a recurrence type through various collaborations with artists. The evolutionary characteristics arouse collectors’ expectations and interest in collections. (Conclusions) If the type of NFT collection so far has been mainly images before and after expression, it is judged that future NFT collection will be re-expressed in various shapes and ranges as in the case of this study. In the future, NFT collection should provide a continuous value, going beyond simply connecting the blockchain to images, videos, or audio, to ensure that the images or videos evolve and are re-expressed.
