Effects of Dementia Prevention Gatekeeper Education Program on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Empathy Toward Peoplewith Dementia Among Nursing StudentsMyunghee Park & Eunju Bong Abstract: This study is quasi-experimental research using the Nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design that examine the effects of the dementia prevention gatekeeper education program on the knowledge, attitude and empathy of nursing students. The participants were nursing students in the first and second grades of two similar colleges in G city. The participants were 34 students from A university, and the control group, 36 students from B university, did not. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 20.0, descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANCOVA. The dementia prevention gatekeeper education program verified the effectiveness of nursing college students who participated in the experimental group after conducting a total of 16 hours of theoretical education, four visits to prevent dementia for the elderly with mild cognitive impairment, and one dementia prevention activity. The results of this study showed that the experimental group participating in the dementia prevention gatekeeper education program ignificantly improved their knowledge, attitude and empathy for dementia compared to the control group. The dementia prevention education program is expected to be presented as an effective program to improve empathy as well as knowledge and attitudes of nursing students about dementia. 치매예방지킴이 교육프로그램이 간호대학생의치매에 대한 지식, 태도 및 공감에 미치는 효과박 명 희*ㆍ봉 은 주** 연구 목적: 본 연구는 치매예방지킴이 교육 프로그램이 간호대학생의 치매에 대한 지식과 태도 및 공감에 미치는 효과를 검증하는 비동등성 대조군 사전?사후설계를 이용한 유사 실험 연구이다. 연구 방법: 연구 대상자는 G시에 소재한 비슷한 환경의 2개 전문대학에 재학 중인 간호대학생 1, 2학년으로, 실험군인 A대학 34명에게 교육을 실시하였고, 대조군인 B대학 36명에게는 교육을 하지 않았다. 자료 분석은 SPSS 20.0을 이용하여, 기술통계, t-test, ANCOVA로 분석하였다. 연구 내용: 치매예방지킴이 교육 프로그램은 실험군에 참여한 간호 대학생들에게 총 16시간의 이론교육과 경도인지장애 노인에게 치매예방을 위한 방문활동 4회와 지역사회 노인 시설을 방문하여 치매예방활동 1회를 실시한 후 효과를 검증하였다. 결론 및 제언: 치매예방지킴이 교육프로그램에 참여한 실험군은 대조군에 비해 치매에 대한 지식과 태도 및 공감이 유의하게 향상되었다. 치매예방지킴이 교육프로그램은 간호대학생들의 치매에 대한 지식과 태도 뿐 아니라 공감을 향상시키는데 효과적인 프로그램으로 제시될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 핵심어: 치매, 간호, 지식, 태도, 공감 □ 접수일: 2022년 7월 6일, 수정일: 2022년 8월 1일, 게재확정일: 2022년 8월 20일＊ 주저자; 조선간호대학교 교수(First Author, Professor, Chosun Nursing College, Email: mh7365@hanmail.net)** 교신저자, 조선간호대학교 조교수(Corresponding Author, Professor, Chosun Nursing College, Email: b-e-j@hanmail.net)
