This study aimed to identify the relationship between lower extremity muscle strength and aerobic capacity of elite and non-elite freestyle skiers and to clarify the effect of lower extremity muscle strength of elite freestyle skiers on their aerobic capacity, thereby providing basic data for the development of training programs for freestyle skiers. The subjects of the study were 30 national representative junior skiers registered with the Korea Ski Association and participating in the freestyle events of Mogul, Park & Pipe, and Ski Cross, under the age of 20, and their lower extremity muscle strength (isokinetic test) and aerobic capacity (exercise treadmill test) were measured. The results of the study have shown that elite freestyle skiers have significantly higher isokinetic HIP 45(45°Flexion & 45°Extension), which indicates muscular power, than skiers who do not. (p<.05) However, there have been no significant differences between the other factors of lower extremity muscle strength and aerobic capacity. In addition, the results of regression analysis have shown that 180 (muscular strength) and 300 (muscular endurance) factors of the knee joint have a significant effect on VO2peak (P<.05), but not all muscular strength factor in HIP do. In conclusion, it has become clear that the 180 (muscular strength) and 300 (muscular endurance) of the knee joint are important factors for the prediction of aerobic capacity among the factors of the lower extremity muscle strength of elite freestyle skiers. Based on the results of the study, it is considered that the performance of an exercise program for elite freestyle skiers to strengthen their muscular strength of the knee joint will have a positive effect on improving their aerobic capacity.
