This study was conducted to provide basic data for introducing and improving the system of near miss reporting by grasping the relationship between general nurses’ willingness to report near miss and perception of patient safety culture. The participants were 472 nurses from four different university hospitals located in Seoul, Gyungi-do, and Kangwon-do. Data were analyzed with statistical program SPSS WIN 20.0 using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. The findings showed that the score of willingness to report near miss was 6.82 (10-point scale) and patient safety culture perception was 3.30 (5 point scale). Of the 10 common near miss items, there was a high level of willingness to report near miss for falls and medications. The willingness to report near miss was positively correlated with the perception of patient safety culture and significantly different from the age, education, work experience, number of safety education, awareness of near miss, awareness of reporting system, and experience in near miss. There should be systematic efforts to shift awareness, along with continuing education on patient safety and near miss reporting.
