As we have witnessed steady increase in the number of households with companion animals recently, it has also been the case that public places are frequently visited by visitors with their companion animals, particularly domestic dogs. These pet owners want to take their pets outside as many times as possible especially when traveling. However, there are many places prohibiting admittance of visitors accompanying pets. In particular, all national parks in South Korea are one of those places. The purpose of this study was to provide a brief overview of pet friendly policies on national parks system in western countries to broaden our horizons of understanding the dog-friendly national parks policy, and to propose an ideal guidelines to the existing pet policy on national parks system in South Korea.
