This study was conducted in order to investigate the antioxidant, anti-aging and marker compounds (hesperidin, chlorogenic acid, salicylic acid) of methanol extracts from leaves and stems of Dendropanax morbifera Leveille from different areas to evaluate the potential for use of D. morbifera as a cosmetic material. Among the jeju, goheung, and jecheon, a relatively high content of polyphenol and flavonoid was observed for D. morbifera extracts from jeju stem extracts and jecheon leaf extracts compared to other regions (51.4, 11.3 mg/g respectively). The highest DPPH radical activity was observed in the jecheon stem extracts (88.1%). Stem extracts from goheung (13.43 Unit/mg) showed greater SOD activity, and there were no significant differences in different areas. Significantly higher CAT and APX activities were observed in goheung leaf and jeju stem extracts (13.4, 3.2 Unit/mg, respectively) compared with other areas. The highest collagenase and elastase inhibitory activities (76.5, 23.0%) were observed in D. morbifera stem extracts of goheung and jecheon, respectively and the strongest tyrosinase inhibitory activity (53.3%) was observed in jeju leaf extracts. An analysis of marker compounds showed that the hesperidin content of jecheon leaf extracts, the chlorogenic acid contents of goheung leaf extracts, and the salicylic acid content of jeju leaf extracts were the highest compared to different areas respectively. These results suggested that the antioxidant, anti-aging and marker compounds of D. morbifera extracts differed according to leaf and stem parts and different areas. Thus, it can be utilized for functional cosmetics.
