In order to expand the understanding of the characteristics of radioactive effluentreleased from operating NPPs, which have not yet been systematically investigated, a quantitativeanalysis using Sen?s slope was performed on 21 NPPs (18 PWRs and 3 PHWRs) in Korea. The gaseous effluent was divided into five radionuclide groups: fission products, radioiodine,particulates, gaseous tritium, and 14C. The liquid effluent was divided into two radionuclidegroups: fission and activation products and liquid tritium. Furthermore, by collecting historicalradioactive effluents discharge data, the correlation between operation history/events and thedischarge characteristics of radioactive effluents by radionuclide groups was identified, and thedifference in discharge according to the types of major radioactive waste management systemswas compared. The results of this study are expected to be utilized to analyze the trend of yearby-year and unit-by-unit changes in radioactive discharges and major factors affecting thedischarges, and to deduce directions for improving the radioactive effluent control at KoreanNPPs. Also, by analyzing the correlation between the discharge of liquid and gaseous radioactiveeffluents by radionuclide groups according to the operation history and significant event of eachplant, it will be possible to prepare a technical basis that can be used for the safety regulation ofradioactive effluents.
