This study examines the moderating effects of inconsistent parenting attitudes on the relationship between parent-child conversation hours and the grit of children using the first waves of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS) 2018. The participants in this study comprised 2,607 fourth-grade elementary school students and their parents. A bootstrap method using the PROCESS macro 3.4 for SPSS was utilized to examine the moderating effects of inconsistent parenting attitudes. The number of parent-child conversation hours was positively related to the grit of children. Furthermore, inconsistent parenting attitudes negatively moderated the relationship between parent-child conversation hours and the grit of children, such that high levels of inconsistent parenting attitudes reduced the positive influence of parent-child conversation hours on children's grit. In other words, children's grit increased as parents and children spent more time talking, but inconsistent parenting attitudes reduced this effect. The results of this study suggest that to improve grit among children and adolescents, it is necessary to strengthen parental education and promote conversation between parents and children in order to support the relationship between parents and children as social capital at home.
