This study aimed to evaluate relation between the mean of dental water lines management and the amounts of bacteria on Dental Hand pieces.In this study, we monitored 12 dental clinics and collected 12 sample of water from dental unit waterlines after flushing for a minute. The water samples were subjected to 10-fold serial dilutions in PBS, plated onto R2A agar, and incubated at 24℃ for 7 days under Co2 incubator. The levels of bacteria in water were quantified by counting colony forming units (CFU) on R2A agar. All participants filled up a questionnaire which was composed of seven items related to practice of dental unit waterlines management and one item about major service of dental clinic. The major parts of department for twelve dental clinic in Kyonggi Province is Prosthodontics(42.6%). It showed 66.6% in dental clinic which is flushing water from both Hand piece and 3-way syringe every morning before starting treatment. The five dental clinic were detected bacteria over 1 x 103 CFU/ml. At the three of above five dental clinic were detected bacteria over 3 x 103 CFU/ml. The practice of dental water lines control were associated with amounts of bacteria in water (p < 0.013). No association with major service of dental clinic was observed. Through this study, we found out relation between practice of dental water lines management and levels of bacteria in water. On the other hand there is no correlation with between different dental clinic setting and levels of bacteria in water.
