The purpose of this study was to effects of combined exercise and extracts from Cirsium japonicum var. ussuriense on oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity and inflammatory markers in middle aged men. The subjects of this study were total 36 persons(control group: 9, milk thistle extracts group: 9, exercise group: 9, milk thistle extracts+exercise group: 9). Subjects in 4 groups performed their assigned combined training 50∼60min/day, 3∼4day/week for 12weeks. And milk thistle were extracts silymarin capsule once per day for 12weeks. In measurements index, oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity and inflammatory markers were determined oxidative stress(Fort), total antioxidant capacity(Fort), WBC, CRP, and fibrinogen. Data obtained at pre and post test were compared among four groups test utilizing two-way ANOVA with repeated measures. The results of this present study were as follows: In oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity, plasma free oxygen radical levels in the milk thistle extracts group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.05). The exercise group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.05), the milk thistle extracts+exercise group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.01). Total antioxidant capacity in the milk thistle extracts group was significantly increased after treatment than before(p<.01). The exercise group was significantly increased after treatment than before(p<.05), the milk thistle extracts+exercise group was significantly increased after treatment than before(p<.01). WBC and fibrinogen levels in the milk thistle extracts group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.05). The exercise group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.05), the milk thistle extracts+exercise group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.01). The CRP levels in the milk thistle extracts group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.01). The exercise group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.05), the milk thistle extracts+exercise group was significantly decreased after treatment than before(p<.01). It was concluded that middle aged men were improved by combined exercise and milk thistle extracts more effective for enhancing oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity and inflammatory markers.
