This study sought to investigate the influence that the mother’s shame, emotion regulation difficulties and marital intimacy has on parenting behavior. For this study, which was based on mothers in Seoul and Gyeonggi province (mothers with children aged from three years to the third year of elementary school), I collected 350 instances of data using the Internalized Shame Scale, the Parenting Behavior Scale, the Korean version of the Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale and the Marital Intimacy Scale. According to the study results, Parenting behavior have an influence on mother’s shame, emotion regulation difficulties and martial intimacy. In addition, marital intimacy(emotional intimacy, cognitional intimacy) appeared to be a mediator of the influential effect of shame on parenting behavior. In addition, the findings related to shame and emotion regulation difficulties as an internal factor of the mothers suggest that the mothers' internal stability is the important factor in the parenting environment of their children in that the use of maladaptive coping strategies as a parenting behavior and has a negative influence on children. Alternatively, the martial relationship as an external factor affecting the mothers is an important protection factor affecting parenting behavior, and fathers as the subject of martial intimacy suggest an important role of positive interaction and parenting behavior in the home.
