This paper analyzes the internal conflicts of Israel, especially focusing on the relationship between Jews and Arab-Israelis. In the beginning, this article reviews prior literature on internal conflicts, such as human needs theory, rational choice theory, and symbolic theory of choice. After that, analytical and methodological frameworks are dealt with. In chapter three, this paper explains the evolving processes of modern Israeli society since its foundation in 1948, and discusses the national, ethnic and religious conflicts in Israeli society, such as the Jewish-Arab, Ashkenazi-Sephardi, and religious-secular conflicts in a broader perspective. In chapter four, this study analyzes the Jewish-Arab ethnic conflicts by applying four variables from the human needs theory, such as the needs of control, security, justice, rational stimulation, and identity. This study identifies two trends in the Jewish-Arab ethnic conflicts of Israel. The first one is that Arab-Israelis identify themselves politically as Palestinians. The other one is that they are increasingly identifying themselves as Israelis in economic and social welfare areas. Although the mutual distrust and animosity between Jews and Arab-Israelis has increased in recent decades, the Jewish-Arab ethnic conflicts have been relieved to some extent by the institutionalization of conflict resolution measures in civil services and social welfare policies. Due to these policies, the political and social rights of Arab-Israeli citizens have been promoted and strengthened. As a result, these factors have contributed to the Israelization of Arab-Israelis in social and economic affairs and also to a decrease in Jewish-Arab ethnic conflicts.
