Report Errors
As computer graphics (CG) usage continues to increase across all genres of movies, the proportion of CG usage in the movie industry is growing in importance. In looking at CG’s introduction in the movie industry abroad, “Star Wars” (1977) ranks 23rd in terms of all-time box office revenue receipts, having benefitted from the development of computer technology. However, domestic films introduced the concept of CG relatively late (during the mid-1980s) and, despite the current global status of Korean films, the historical significance of Korean film CG has been overlooked. In order for a field to be socially recognized, each field requires its own history. Thus, I aim record the history of Korean film CG. While discussing the first concept of Korean films’ CG use, this study analyzes the expression, form, and content, as well as archived newspaper articles, magazines, and interview records of workers from the time to identify the historical characters of the early days of Korean film CG’s use.
