Objective: The purpose of this study was to provide information about the environments and supports for the development of autonomy, a key developmental task in two- to three-year-olds.
Methods: As a research procedure, components were selected through the analysis of previous studies and expert Delphi survey, 89 preliminary questions corresponding to the components were developed, and 55 questions were extracted through content validity test from 8 experts. The data from the 888 questionnaires collected through the survey were then analyzed using JAMOVI 2.3, SPSS 24, and AMOS 24. Validity was established through content validity, Convergent validity, and discriminant validity, and reliability through Cronbach’s α, an internal reliability coefficient.
Results: The final extracted factors and items are: 4 questions for taking initiative, 8 questions for respecting rules, 5 questions for being prepared, 3 questions for being assertive, 8 questions for being responsible, and 4 questions for respecting others.
Conclusion/Implications: The autonomy scale developed in this study is significant in that it is a scientific instrument that reflects autonomy theory, developmental theory, and expert views, and has been tested for reliability and validity. It is hoped that the results of this study will be reflected in the curriculum planning and child guidance.
