One of the central themes of Western modern philosophy was ‘How is moral choice, especially moral evil, possible for humans who are only part of a causal relationship?’ The key issue related to elucidating the possibility of moral choice is to identify what the subject's ability to make moral choice is. “Will of choice”(Willkür) has been discussed as a key concept to clarify this problem. This paper focuses on the theory of freedom of two philosophers, Leibniz and Kant, who developed moral choice more systematically and precisely than anyone else in modern Western philosophy. In particular, through a close comparison of the two philosophers' concept of agency, this thesis attempts to reveal their insights and limitations in relation to moral choice. Through this comparative review, this paper aims to find an important clue for a more advanced understanding of the possibility of moral choice.
