The Mediating Effect of Social Activities on the RelationshipBetween Elderly Discrimination Experience and Life SatisfactionOhgyun Kwon Abstract: The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the effects of discrimination experiences of the elderly on life satisfaction and the mediating effect of social activities. Data from the 2020 Elderly Survey were used, and the final survey response data of 9,920 people were statistically analyzed. The effects of discrimination experiences and social activities of the elderly on life satisfaction and the mediating effect of social activities were verified. It was found that the discrimination experience of the elderly had a negative (-) effect on social activities and life satisfaction, and that social activities had a mediating effect on the relationship between the elderly’s discrimination experiences and life satisfaction. In the end, the discrimination experience of the elderly becomes an empirical basis for improving life satisfaction, and in particular, practical efforts are needed to improve life satisfaction through vitalization of social activities.
