This study examined the heterogeneity of unmarried young single-person households with a focus on whether or not they would continue to be single-person households in the future. I analyzed how socioeconomic factors, family values, and life conditions affect the continuation of a single-person household. From the data of "the 2020 Survey on the Status of Families", 617 unmarried young single-households aged 25-29 were analysed. First, results showed that among the subjects, there were slightly more people who did not wish to continue single-person households, but there were also just as many people who did wish to continue single-person households. The majority of those that wished to discontinue being a single-person household planned to marry. Second, a binary logistic regression analysis showed that subjective class recognition, family values, and life conditions had a statistically significant effect on their choice to prolong the single-person lifestyle. Third, the group that continued to wish to live as a single-person household strongly advocated for non-traditional values regarding marriage and felt a strong burden of family support. In addition, not only did they have low subjective class recognition, but also lacked coping mechanisms when faced with a crisis. This suggests that it is necessary to develop specialized care programs for young people. In summary, increasing young single-person households predicts the emergence of various life alternatives in familial structures other than the traditional family type. Therefore, the scope of future single-person household policies should not be limited to just individuals, but should be discussed more comprehensively, going beyond the boundaries of family and population policy to cooperate with other areas in society such as economy, politics, welfare, and culture.
