The purpose of this study is to compare the borrowed landscape of Yeongyeongdang and that of contemporary spaces. The four distinct characteristics of Yeongyeongdang are Framing, Layering, Angle of vision, and Perceiving close and distant scenery. Framing is to make two dimensional wall of art from three dimensional landscape outside using window frame. Layering is to create spatial depth by repetitive spaces by door frames, walls, or columns. Angle of vision is controlling views using height differences of view point. Perceiving close and distant scenery is to create perception of object as a part of interior or distant backdrop as per distance difference to the scenery. The most noticeable difference in contemporary spaces is the diversity of techniques. For example, we can find two or more techniques combined such as multiple layering by various sizes of opening or rotating wall, and changeable view point by ramp. Other unique characteristics are serendipity by unusual angle of views and combination of various materials.
