The importance of consumer evaluations as a preceding factor for the success media content market is increasing. Therefore, the research on content experiences that directly influence consumer evaluations is needed. An actor’s performance is a direct factor in a viewer’s experience of content and is associated with consumer evaluations and the overall success of the production. In particular, media performance differs from stage performance, causing a greater challenge in conveying emotion to the viewer through facial expressions. This study was conducted to explore the relationship between an actor’s facial expressions and the emotions felt by the viewer through facial expression analysis. Participants watched a short video and assessed the emotions and the immersion they felt from the video, and the acting performance. As a result, in case of joy, the alignment of the actor’s facial expressions and the viewer’s emotions led to an increased immersion and better evaluation for the performance, while a mismatch had the same effect in the case of sadness. This reflects the importance of subtle emotional expressions in media performance. It is anticipated that the findings will be applied in the field of media content through further research.
