The symbolic meaning of space that appears in Lee Yong-ak’s poems is created and destroyed by the social and emotional spaces created by social relations. According to Henri Lefevre, social space includes social functions according to the hierarchical order of social relations, biological relations, and production relations, and appropriate places are allocated for each activity. These places encompass a variety of areas such as physical, abstract, primitive, and symbolic spaces, and for humans, places can be said to be an important emotional space that not only expands the awareness of globalization but also expands the inner mental world. This aligns with Plato’s saying that all beings must be in a certain topos and occupy a certain chora; such a chora is disordered. As an amorphous placenta-like existence, it is a place where creation and extinction coexist. In Lee Yong-akpoems, images of “water” (sea, river) and “night” are constantly appearing, and in this space, times of the past, present, and future are mixed to create new meaning. In other words, they are transformed into various forms by social and cultural environments, personal experiences, and emotional functions, and eventually, their own space is created. The space created by social relations becomes a concrete place full of meaning, as Ifu-Tuan said, and when an area approaches us as an intimate place, we finally have a sense of place for that area. In other words, the spatial meaning of and may disappear or be reborn in the collaborative space, and Lee Yong-ak poetry world is constantly transforming in this collaborative space and expanding the inner world.
