This study tried to present basic data and directions for the restoration of endangered species in Korea by analyzing the awareness and attitudes of local residents who can restore endangered species. The subjects of this study were 307 residents from areas where restoration of endangered species is possible and those from which it is impossible. As a research tool, Korea’s Endangered Species Restoration Awareness Scale (K-ESRAS) was used, and data analysis was conducted using t-test and one-way analysis of variance. The results of the study were first, that there was no difference in awareness and attitudes towards the restoration of endangered species according to gender. As for the difference according to age, there were differences in perception and attitude for each sub-factor, and in particular, those in their 70s or older showed lower awareness and attitude than other age groups. As for the difference according to the final educational background, there was a difference in perception and attitude for each sub-factor, and in particular, it was found that those with a master’s degree or higher had higher perception and attitude. Second, the perception and attitude toward restoration of endangered species according to the residential area were higher in each sub-factor and overall in the non-recoverable area than in the restorationable area. Therefore, it can be seen that the awareness and attitudes towards restoration of endangered species are low among the residents of the recoverable region with high age and low educational background.
