The purpose of this study was to systematically review the results of randomized control studies (RCTs) applying forced air warming (FAW) intervention to prevent hypothermia in spinal surgery patients under general anesthesia, and to confirm the optimal application method of FAW intervention to prevent hypothermia postoperatively through meta-analysis. The systematic review handbook of the Cochrane Alliance and the systematic review reporting guidelines presented by the PRISMA Group were followed. For literature selection, electronic database searches were conducted using PICO-SD. Seven studies using FAW intervention were systematically reviewed after reviewing related papers conducted from 1990 to 2023 in the database. RevMan 5.4 and CMA 4.1 were used for analysis. FAW intervention effectively prevented postoperative hypothermia in spinal surgery patients under general anesthesia, and the effect size was found to be a medium. This study confirmed that FAW intervention for spinal surgery patients under general anesthesia has a significant effect on the prevention of hypothermia, and these findings can contribute to creating standards and guidelines that can be effectively applied in the clinical field to prevent hypothermia in spinal surgery patients under general anesthesia.
