Microfluidic devices are widely used in biology for disease diagnosis, organ modeling, cancer and pathogen detection. In this review, we explored how microfluidic devices have been utilized in biomimetic modeling and drug research over the past 5 years by examining published papers which were sourced through a search in the PubMed database. These devices have been custom made for various experimental purposes and have demonstrated outstanding performance and reproducibility in biomimetic modeling and drug research. Most of the reviewed papers were on the treatment of cancers, especially brain cancers. These devices have shown high reproducibility in mimicking structures such as the cell barriers, and they have demonstrated their potential as effective tools in metabolic transfer and cancer metastasis research. These devices enable the real-time observation of drug screening, and provide high-quality results in terms of time and cost efficiency. In drug synthesis, these devices have demonstrated excellent performance in nanoparticle synthesis, encapsulation, and size control.
