This descriptive study examined the attitudes and anxiety related to death, and knowledge of advance directives among students in the Emergency Medical Services. The study was conducted from May 30, 2024, to June 17, 2024, and involved 167 participants. Analyses were performed using t-tests, ANOVA, and Bonferroni corrections for post-hoc tests. The participants" average age was 22.3 years, and 59.9% were male and 40.1% female. The average scores were 2.45 for death attitudes and 2.23 for death anxiety. Participants who completed hospital internships (7.00 vs. 6.01) and fire station internships (6.86 vs. 6.06) demonstrated higher knowledge of advance directives. Those who had witnessed death also exhibited significantly higher knowledge of advance directives (6.60 vs. 5.84, p=.017). Awareness of advance directives correlated with higher knowledge scores (7.18 vs. 5.26, p<.001), as did the intention to prepare advance directives (7.27 vs. 6.33 vs. 5.81, p=.001). Therefore, to ensure that emergency medical technicians can effectively perform their roles as advocates and coordinators when facing patient death, there is a need to develop educational programs related to attitudes and anxiety related to death, and knowledge of advance directives. These programs should incorporate ethical reflection and help students develop appropriate values regarding death before commencing clinical practice.
