(Background and Purpose) The proportion of young single-person households in Korea is steadily increasing, and in response, various affordable housing options are being supplied by the government and private companies for young single-person households. In particular, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been supplying social housing in the form of shared housing in cooperation with the private sector as a means of addressing youth housing poverty in 2015. This study aims to analyze the spatial characteristics of social housing, a type of shared housing for young single-person households, to identify the status of problems in the spatial aspect and to provide basic data for the spatial planning of an improved environment in the future. (Method) Firstly, the conceptual content pertinent to this study was elucidated through theoretical consideration. Subsequently, in order to derive the characteristics of shared housing space for young single-person households, related previous studies were analyzed to prepare an analytical framework for the case study of this study. A case study was conducted on six social housing units based on the analysis framework. The findings of the analysis were discussed through analysis and final conclusions were drawn. (Results) A case analysis of social housing for young single-person households revealed that the level of application was high in the areas of independence, accessibility, and expandability, while the level of application was low for exchange and openness. It was demonstrated that the type of community space arrangement has an impact on the formation of communities, both with local residents and between residents. This was confirmed in terms of exchange and accessibility among spatial characteristics. It was determined that the accessibility, openness, and expandability of community spaces can be influenced by the layout and design of the community space, the circulation system, the installation of temporary walls, and the composition of building materials. (Conclusions) The recent trend in shared housing is the provision of a community space that facilitates various experiences and exchanges, thereby satisfying the diverse needs of residents. Therefore, in the future, rather than a clear distinction between sharing and co-living types, it is anticipated that a variety of shared housing types will emerge, to the needs of residents, through the appropriate mixing of the two types, thereby expanding the range of choices according to residents' tastes. Furthermore, diversity in spatial planning in terms of the community is required so that independence and exchange can be appropriately distributed. Community facilities installed on the lower floors is anticipated to have a positive effect by encouraging close ties with local residents, challenging the negative perception of housing for the socially underprivileged, and providing a space where various generations can live together.
