This article will first discuss the current status of Sino-Korean words being used, and how Sino-Korean words that have been incorporated into Korean, and Sino-Korean words that still strongly contain Chinese meanings, are being used, through several examples. In particular, Sino-Korean words are being used in Korean along with pure Hangul expressions, as if they have been completely incorporated into our society, but there is still an inexplicable sense of dissonance between Sino-Korean words and Hangul. In addition, the Sino-Korean characters that coexist in Koreans’ daily language life and the foreign words that have permeated Sino-Korean words are moving between the two linguistic symbols, and the mutual relationship between them urgently demands that we observe how Koreans’ linguistic thinking is changing.
