Multiport mini-channel tube is a highly compact and reliable heat exchanger design, suitable for many refrigeration and air-conditioning engineering application. With the introduction of next generation alternative refrigerant into the industry, it is therefore necessary to provide the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop data of refrigerant for this type of heat exchanger before application and design. In the current work, the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of R448A, a R1234ze(E) based azeotropic blend with reduced GWP, was under study. The experimental range of mass flux is from 100 to 500㎏/㎡s, while heat flux is from 3 to 15 ㎾/㎡, covering a full range of vapor quality. For engineering design purpose, the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop data is compared against correlations in literature, and then a new modified correlation is proposed for an optimized performance.
