This study began by focusing on the situation in which the recent spread of K-culture and the subsequent prominence of dance culture are not limited to the realm of popular culture, but have also been applied to ballet, a fine art and high culture. In particular, as the Korean National Ballet company's own repertoire was successfully performed overseas in 2017, ballet also began to be recognized as a national brand product, and the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet, which announced its found- ing in 2024, is directly advocating for K-Ballet.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand the current status of K-ballet, which shows Korea's national identity based on artistic creativity. To this end, this researcher intends to proactively examine the historical context in which ballet settled and developed in Korea, and to examine the changes and characteristics that have appeared in the recent Korean ballet's creative process and works and performances by subdivid- ing them into two conflicting trends: 'Enhancing locality' and 'Breaking away from locality'. The discussion will materialize the changes in the topography of ballet in the K-cultural era through the analysis of specific performance cases and works by the Korean National Ballet.
