This study aims to provide a comparative analysis of eight cultural centers in Seoul, Korea, divided into the periodsof the cultural center era and the art center era, and to derive the characteristics of complex spaces to provide a basis forefficient space planning in the future construction of cultural centers. Despite the different purposes of the composite spaces inprevious studies, the composite spaces except the performance area are included in a large category as additional facilities, sothe composite spaces were reconstructed in detail into six types, and the study was conducted through the method ofanalyzing the area ratio and visibility graph. The characteristics of complex spaces by era are as follows. First, it was foundthat the spatial recognition was relatively easier in the cultural center era and lower as it changed to the art center era. Second, as the art center era entered, the cultural complex area and community activity area increased the connection betweenspaces, and the visual openness of the central area increased, which is expected to increase the encounter and distribution ofusers. Third, in the art center era, the event/rally area was found to be located at the periphery of the space. This study canprovide a direction for efficient space planning of complex spaces required in the current era by categorizing the periods.
