Purpose: This study aimed in a rheumatology center of a university hospital to test the effect of an online self-manage- ment intervention for metabolic syndrome in 53 gout patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods: The intervention for the self-management of metabolic syndrome was provided to the experimental group individually via Zoom, using an educa- tional booklet once a week for four weeks. The control group was given a 30-minute education about the general gout management with booklet at the time of the pre-investigation. Indicators of metabolic syndrome were collected using medical records twice, and self-management behavior of metabolic syndrome and quality of life were collected thrice over e-mail, Google Forms, and social media. Data were analyzed using SPSS/PC 25.0 program. Results: The intervention ef- fect on the metabolic syndrome index was suggested to be significant for systolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol. The effect on metabolic syndrome self-management had not significant. The effect of the intervention on quality of life was significant after one month, but not after six months. Conclusion: The intervention program used in this study is expected to be highly utilized as an educational intervention for the management of blood uric acid and metabolic syndrome in gout patients using Zoom.
