This study examines the current state and emerging trends in biobanking standardization, with a particular emphasis on the increasing significance of organoid banks. Traditional biobanks, which store a variety of biological specimens such as blood, cells, tissues, and DNA, have developed comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) that ensure consistency, quality, and reliability in the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of these samples. These SOPs are critical for maintaining and supporting the reproducibility of research outcomes. However, organoid banks, which preserve living, three-dimensional cellular structures that mimic cellular diversity and the functions of real organs, present a new set of challenges that are not adequately addressed by existing biobanking standards. The objective of this study is to identify and address the unmet needs in the standardization of organoid banks. Through a thorough review of international guidelines and existing biobanking practices, this research highlights the necessity of developing specialized SOPs tailored to the unique demands of organoid banks. Such standardization is essential not only for ensuring the reproducibility and reliability of research but also for addressing the ethical considerations associated with the use of living biological organ and tissue models. The study underscores that without the implementation of standardized protocols, the full potential of organoid banks to advance personalized medicine, drug discovery, and disease modeling may be compromised. The findings call for a concerted effort to develop and harmonize these standards, thereby enhancing collaboration, data sharing, and the overall impact of organoid-based research on the biomedical community. This research contributes to the ongoing evolution of organoid banking practices and sets the stage for future developments in the field.
