The purpose of this study was to examine green fashion films of the Fashion Film Festival Milano and explore messages and meanings of sustainability conveyed through them. Research methods included a literature review of fashion films, the Fashion Film Festival Milano, and major fashion film festivals around the world and a case study works nominated in the green fashion film category of the Fashion Film Festival Milano. Research results are as follows. The Fashion Film Festival Milano, which started out as a platform to showcase creativity and innovation through the fusion of fashion and film, was characterized by creativity, discovery of new designers, sustainability, and delivery of social messages. From 2018 to 2023, works nominated in the Green Fashion Film category covered environmental, social, and ethical aspects, focusing on the keyword of sustainable fashion. Sub-topics were diverse, including emphasizing the interconnectedness between humans and the earth from an environmental perspective, the use of fish skin as a sustainable material, the devastating natural environment presented through the journey of an environmental activist, labor exploitation and human rights issues occurring within the fashion industry, the preservation and inheritance of local culture, and the spirit of fashion brands pursuing sustainability or ethical fashion. Documentary film was the main form of expression, short films, art films, and even complex forms of expression appeared, and creativity were also presented through realistic images, artistic images, and commentary. These green fashion films are meaningful in that they contain facts and authenticity that seek to bring about positive changes to the environment and society through fashion, present artistic aesthetics of sustainable fashion by fusing it with video aesthetics, and deliver a message to the public that encourages better choices and participation.
