음악은 청소년기의 학생들에게 시？공간적 소리를 통하여 학생의 창조적 능력을 표출하게 하고, 학생들의 미적 감수성을 자극하고 발달시키며, 정서적인 측면을 만족시키고 바르게 발달시킨다. 때문에 중등학교에서의 음악교육은 매우 중요하다. 게다가, 음악교육에서의 국악에 대한 중요성이 강조되고 있기 때문에, 중등학교 국악교육이 어떤 방식과 주제로 연구되어 왔는지 그 연구 동향과 성과를 점검하는 것이 필요하다.
따라서 본 연구는 전국 대학원을 대상으로 최근 5년간 연구된 중등학교 국악교육 관련 석사학위 논문 194편의 연구 동향을 분석함으로써 최근의 경향성을 파악하고, 중등학교 음악교과에서의 국악교육에 대한 정보를 얻고자 하는 사람들에게 체계적인 정보를 제공하며, 중등학교에서 국악교육을 하는 교사들에게 도움을 주고자 함에 목적을 두었다.
이와 같은 과제를 수행하기 위해 국악교육의 의의와 필요성을 밝히고, 중등음악에서의 국악교육에 대해 알아본 뒤 중등국악교육에 대해 연구한 석사학위논문들을 분석·정리하였다. 한국교육학술정보원의 논문 검색을 통하여 중등국악교육 관련 논문 194편을 수집하고 연도별, 전공별, 주제별, 대상별, 실제 수업적용 여부별 분류를 통해 그간의 연구동향을 백분율과 표, 그림으로 나타내어 분류·분석하였으며, 분석한 결과를 토대로 중등국악교육 관련 연구의 바람직한 방향을 살펴보았다. 중등국악교육 관련 학위 논문을 분류하고 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 연도별 연구동향을 살펴보면, 2008년부터 2012년까지 5년간 연구된 중등국악교육 관련 석사학위논문이 감소하고 있었다. 점점 국악부분의 비중을 늘리고 있는 음악과 교육과정에 비해 시간이 갈수록 중등국악교육 관련 논문연구는 줄어들고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
둘째, 전공별 연구동향을 보면, 교육대학원생의 논문이 비교육대학원의 논문에 비해 압도적으로 높게 나타났으며, 교육대학원생 중에서도 음악교육전공자가 대부분을 차지하였다. 또한 일반대학원의 국악전공이나 국악교육 대학원생의 연구 비율이 음악교육보다 낮은 점으로 미루어보아 국악을 전공하는 연구자의 연구가 많이 부족한 현실이다.
셋째, 주제별 연구동향에서는, 수업지도안과 교과서 분석이 전체 논문의 80%를 차지하고 있었다. 이에 반해, 실태조사나 인식도를 연구한 논문은 7%였으며, ICT(Information & Communication Technology : 정보통신기술)활용 연구는 2%, 기타 특정 주제를 심도 있게 연구한 주제연구는 11%로 많이 미흡한 수준으로 나타났다.
넷째, 대상별 연구동향을 살펴보면 중학생을 대상으로 한 논문이 월등히 많았고, 다음으로 고등학생, 중·고등학생과 예술계 중·고등학생, 특수학생을 대상으로 한 논문 순으로 나타났다.
다섯째, 실제 수업적용 여부 연구동향을 보면, 전체 논문 194편 중 수업지도방안을 제시한 논문이 108편이다. 지도방안을 제시한 논문 중에서 실제 수업에서의 적용과 검증 없이 가설 아래 연구된 것이 많아, 연구된 지도방안이 효율적인지를 판단하기 어려웠다.
위의 결과를 바탕으로 중등국악교육의 연구 방향을 제시하였다.
먼저, 중등국악교육에 대한 관심을 갖아야 한다. 현재 교육과정에서도 국악교육이 강조되고 있는 점을 감안할 때 중등국악교육에 대한 연구가 양적으로 늘어나야 한다고 사료되었다. 조금 더 중등국악교육에 관심을 가지고 이를 위한 연구가 발전해 나가는데 관심을 기울여야 할 것이다. 또한 수업지도안과 교과서분석만이 아닌 다양한 주제로 참신한 연구들이 이루어져야 하며, 특히 수업지도안 연구는 검증 및 실제 수업결과가 포함된 객관적인 지도안을 제시하여야겠다.

Music lets youths display their creative ability through the space-time sound, stimulates and develops students'' aesthetic sensitivity, satisfies their emotional aspect and develops them correctly. Therefore, music education of secondary school is very important. Futhermore, an importance of Korean traditional music is focused in music education, so it''s necessary to check the tendency and results of researches, such as method and subject of Korean traditional music education of secondary school.
Therefore, the purposes of this research are to analyze the tendency of 194 master''s theses related to Korean traditional music education of secondary school, studied for national graduate schools in 5 years, grasp the recent tendency, provide systematic information to people who intend to obtain the information of Korean traditional music education from music textbooks of secondary school and give helps to Korean traditional music teachers in secondary school.
To achieve the purposes, it investigated significance and necessity of Korean traditional music education, examined Korean traditional music education in secondary school music and analyzed and arranged master''s theses which studied Korean traditional music education of secondary school. By searching theses of korea education and research information service, 194 theses related to Korean traditional music education of secondary school were collected, studying tendency was divided and analyzed by percentage, chart and picture through the division by years, majors, subjects, objects and actual application to classes and examined correct direction of researches related to Korean traditional music education of secondary school based on the results of analysis. The results of dividing and analyzing master''s theses related to Korean traditional music education of secondary school are as follows.
The first, if examining the tendency of researches by years, master''s theses related to Korean traditional music education of secondary school, had studied for 5 years from 2008 to 2012, were reduced. In comparison with music subject''s curriculum which increases the weight of Korean traditional music gradually, master''s theses related to Korean traditional music education of secondary school were reduced as times went by.
The second, if examining the tendency of researches by majors, theses of students in graduate school of education were overwhelmingly higher than theses of students in graduate school of non-education and most of the students in graduate school of education majored music education. Also, the rate of researches of students who major in Korean traditional music in general graduate school or attend graduate school of Korean traditional music education was lower than music education, so researches of researchers majoring in Korean traditional music are insufficient so much.
The third, in the tendency of researches by subjects, class guidance plan and textbook analysis were 80% of the whole theses. On the contrary, theses studying actual condition or perception were 7%, theses studying ICT(Information & Communication Technology) application were 2% and theses studying other particular subjects deeply were 11%, so they were very insufficient.
The fourth, if examining the tendency of researches by objects, there were far many theses for secondarys school students and the next was high school students, secondary·high school students and arts secondary·high school students and special-education students in order.
The fifth, if examining the tendency of researches for actual application to classes, there are 108 theses suggesting class guidance plan among the whole 194 theses. Among the theses suggesting guidance plan, there were lots of researches under the hypotheses without application to actual classes and verification, so it was difficult to judge if studied guidance method is efficient.
The direction of researches was suggested for Korean traditional music education of secondary school based on the above results. First of all, Korean traditional music education of secondary school must be interested. If considering that Korean traditional music education is focused in current curriculum, studies on Korean traditional music education of secondary school must be quantitatively increased. The development of researches for it must be interested with more interests in Korean traditional music of secondary school. In addition, creative studies must be conducted by various subjects, not just analysis of class guidance plan and textbook analysis and especially, studies on class guidance plan must suggest objective guidance plan including verification and results of actual classes.
