Hydrogel nanoparticles have attracted considerable attention for drug delivery systems due to their good biocompatibility, biodegradability, and novel drug release behavior. In this study, we prepared nanogels composed of poly(acrylic acid), hexane and silver nitrate using electron beam irradiation. The nanogels were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). In addition, the size and zeta-potential of nanogels were measured by a particle size analyzer (PSA). The nanogels were prepared at an approximate size of 200 nm at 100 kGy and were spherical in shapes. The size of the nanogels decreased with increasing irradiation doses, and the absolute value of zeta potential increased with increasing irradiation doses. The antibacterial properties of the nanogels were evaluated by paper diffusion test. the Ag/PAAc nanogels had an antibacterial effect against E. coli and S. aureus. The nanogels also demonstrated to have a good healing effect against the diabetic ulcer. In conclusion, the PAAc nanogels containing silver nanoparticles may be promising biomaterials in drug delivery system.
